The Ethereum network implemented the "Constantinople" and "St. Petersburg" hard fork upgrades on February 28, 2019. This upgrade was originally scheduled for January but was postponed due to the discovery of a security vulnerability. The "St. Petersburg" fork aimed to disable the vulnerable EIP-1283 found in "Constantinople." These two non-contentious upgrades reduced block rewards from 3 ETH to 2 ETH and delayed the difficulty bomb, aiming to improve network efficiency and lay the groundwork for a future transition to Proof-of-Stake (PoS).
