Svmuu News: The Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed criminal complaints against the digital asset exchange Bitkub Online and two former directors, Sakolkorn Sakavee and Thaweesap Rawan, accusing them of making false reports related to a 2021 cyberattack.
The SEC stated that a cyberattack in May 2021 resulted in the theft of 16 types of digital assets from Bitkub, valued at approximately 1.7 billion baht, or about $50 million. The regulator stated that Bitkub subsequently replenished the stolen assets by October 31, 2021, but the daily net working capital reports submitted between May 10 and October 30, 2021, did not accurately reflect the reduction in assets.
Bitkub stated on X that the case stemmed from a disclosure decision following a cyberattack in May 2021 and did not constitute fraud. The exchange explained that the delay in disclosing the compromised wallets was intended to prevent a run on the exchange, and that the co-founder subsequently purchased digital assets of equivalent value to cover the stolen funds, ensuring that neither the company nor its customers suffered any financial losses.
Founded in 2018, Bitkub is one of Thailand’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges. Bitkub’s parent company is considering a potential initial public offering (IPO), including a possible listing in Hong Kong.

Svmuu News: BlackRock, Coinbase, Strategy, Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, Block, Blockstream, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Galaxy have formed the Bitcoin Security Consortium, committing a total of $15 million over three years to fund security research and open-source development for the Bitcoin, with a focus on quantum computing defenses.
The consortium does not hold or allocate funds; each member will directly select the developers and researchers to fund. The consortium stated that it will not direct the development of Bitcoin nor take a position on protocol changes; Mike Schmidt, a developer who funds the nonprofit organization Brink, will coordinate the relevant work on a volunteer basis.
Currently, no quantum computer exists capable of breaking the cryptography of Bitcoin. Approximately 6.9 million BTC, valued at $450 billion, are stored in addresses that could be affected should such a quantum computer emerge; addressing this issue would require coordination among multiple parties, including wallets, exchanges, miners, and users.
Relevant efforts include proposals such as BIP 360, which designs a new output type to limit public key exposure and works in conjunction with post-quantum signature schemes. Robert Mitchnick, Head of Digital Assets at BlackRock, stated that Core developers are engaged in important work and that the organization will provide additional funding to ensure the long-term security of Bitcoin.

In addition to the digital asset measures, the EU has imposed asset freezes and transaction bans on 94 banks and major financial institutions, and has expanded the transaction ban to include an additional 33 Russian credit and financial institutions.

Svmuu News: B2C2, a crypto market maker in which SBI Holdings holds a 90% stake, has been in acquisition talks with several potential buyers over the past 18 months.
The negotiations have been hampered by disagreements over valuation. B2C2 is seeking a transaction price exceeding $1 billion, but a source familiar with the matter said that price is difficult to achieve given the current crypto market conditions.

Svmuu News: NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang engaged in a wide-ranging and in-depth discussion with AXIOS co-founder Mike Allen on the current state of artificial intelligence. Huang noted that although the chip industry has long been subject to cycles of boom and bust, “this time is different.”Even considering the chip industry’s historically highly cyclical fluctuations (as shown in the figure), the current boom still has room to grow.
When asked whether the industry is on the verge of a downturn, Huang replied, “No, that won’t happen for some time. This time is different because it is not demand-driven.” Huang Renxun further explained that the current AI boom is not driven by consumer demand, which has long been the industry’s primary driver. The current AI boom is industry-driven, meaning that the core technology of computers is undergoing a transformation. We need to establish an entirely new layer of infrastructure on a global scale. We already have energy, the internet, roads, and railways; now we need to build an “intelligence layer”—that is, an additional layer of infrastructure on top of these foundations. And this layer of infrastructure relies on chips. I believe our semiconductor industry may need to be five to ten times larger than it is now… The industry is currently too small.Everything is in extreme short supply because this is not a cyclical issue, nor is it driven by consumer demand; rather, it stems from fundamental, infrastructure-related factors. Consequently, the entire industry is facing shortages. I believe we must scale up this industry several-fold. (Jin Shi)

Svmuu News: The AI Standards and Innovation Center, under the U.S. Department of Commerce, in collaboration with the UK’s AI Safety Institute, conducted tests on the Kimi K3’s cyberattack capabilities and emphasized that “the U.S. remains in the lead.”
However, the validity of this assessment is disputed due to limitations in the scope of testing. Because of constraints in the hosting environment, Kimi K3 participated in only a portion of the tests; its overall cyber capabilities were estimated primarily based on 41 exploit benchmarks, whereas other models underwent more comprehensive testing, resulting in a wider margin of error for Kimi K3’s results.
In the exploit testing, Kimi K3 scored approximately 32%, higher than GLM-5.2’s 24%, but lower than the average of about 76% achieved by leading U.S. models. In simulated attack chain tests, Kimi K3 completed an average of 17 out of 32 steps in an attack chain and successfully breached the network once out of 10 attempts, while leading U.S. models completed an average of 28.5 steps.
The report notes that Kimi K3 has demonstrated a certain degree of autonomous attack capability, and its security safeguards did not prevent the model from developing vulnerabilities or executing attacks. However, the report also emphasizes that the scope of the testing was limited.

Svmuu News: On July 22, the Sui Foundation and Mysten Labs launched the Hashi testnet for the Bitcoin collateral protocol, which allows BTC to serve as collateral for on-chain lending and credit markets without being wrapped into synthetic tokens or bridged across chains.
Hashi maintains Bitcoin on the Bitcoin network. Deposits are protected by a 2-of-2 multisignature mechanism, requiring simultaneous signatures from Hashi’s multi-party computation validators and an independent Guardian Layer. Loan terms and collateral positions are recorded on-chain, allowing lenders to verify the collateral backing.
More than 25 institutional partners are currently testing Hashi’s lending and credit applications, including Bitgo, Cumberland, FalconX, Ledger, Blockdaemon, Bullish, and the Sui ecosystem lending platforms Navi and Scallop.Wave Digital Assets has committed to advancing a three-year tokenization program for Sui-based “Bitcoin” yield bonds following Hashi’s mainnet launch.
Hashi has not yet announced a mainnet launch date. Sui announced the Hashi development network phase in March, positioning the protocol as a solution to enhance capital efficiency in the approximately $1.4 trillion Bitcoin market.
