Krishna Guha, vice chair and head of central bank strategy at Evercore ISI, believes the Federal Reserve is currently an "inflation first" central bank, focusing more on inflation, oil prices, and bond yields than US jobs data when deciding whether to raise interest rates at this month’s meeting.

HealthEquity's Q2 FY2027 results, released on August 27, showed an 8% year-over-year increase in revenue to $347 million, surpassing the 7% growth rate from the first half of the year. Adjusted EBITDA jumped 11% to $167 million, achieving a record-high margin of 48%. The company's total Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) reached 10.7 million, with new HSAs growing 24% year-over-year to 202,000. Based on this performance, management raised its full-year revenue and profit guidance, now expecting full-year revenue between $1.411 billion and $1.421 billion, and adjusted EBITDA between $628 million and $636 million. The company's total HSA assets reached $37.9 billion, a 14% increase, with investment assets growing 28% to $20.6 billion.

Allica Bank has applied to Finansinspektionen, Sweden's financial regulator, for a banking licence, which would mark its first expansion outside the UK. The move follows the bank's $155 million Series D funding round in February, which valued the lender at nearly $1.2 billion. A Swedish banking licence would also enable Allica to provide services in other European Union markets over time. Allica Bank CEO Richard Davies stated that Sweden was a natural choice due to its digital economy and respected regulator. The bank has already established a legal entity in Sweden and appointed a local leadership team. Since receiving its UK banking licence in 2019, Allica has provided over £4 billion ($5.4 billion) in lending to UK businesses. The application remains subject to assessment and approval by Finansinspektionen.

MicroStrategy founder Michael Saylor and CEO Phong Le sent a letter to MSCI on Monday, requesting the withdrawal of a proposed index eligibility test. The test could lead to MicroStrategy's removal from MSCI's global benchmark indexes, a proposal Saylor called "discriminatory, arbitrary, and misleading."

The rule consultation, launched in August, targets what MSCI refers to as "non-operating companies," defined as issuers whose operating assets are less than half of their total assets. If a company triggers four out of five metrics, it will be deemed ineligible. JPMorgan analysts estimated in November 2025 that MicroStrategy's removal from MSCI could lead to $2.8 billion in outflows, potentially increasing to $11.6 billion if other index providers follow suit. Besides MicroStrategy, the UK's Yellow Cake and Japan's Metaplanet could also be affected. MSCI's feedback deadline is September 30, with results expected to be announced on October 16.

Despite Palantir's Q2 revenue jumping 92.8% year-over-year to $1.94 billion with adjusted EPS of $0.41, an analyst suggests Intel is a stronger pick for the remainder of 2026. Intel's stock has gained 142% year-to-date, and its Q2 revenue rose 25.4% to $16.13 billion with non-GAAP EPS of $0.42. The analyst notes Intel has seen 32 upward EPS revisions in the last 30 days, while Palantir's 73x price-to-sales ratio and stock price near its $192 analyst target create a valuation ceiling. Intel Foundry, however, still reported a $2.1 billion loss in Q2.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, in an interview with CNBC, stated that he expects Japan to take action to support the yen, which the market interpreted as a signal that the Bank of Japan (BOJ) might raise interest rates. This follows reports that Japan could face a record budget, exacerbating market concerns about the country's fiscal trajectory.

The U.S. national debt has officially exceeded $40 trillion, more than double its level at the start of 2017. This comes as Tesla CEO Elon Musk earlier this year warned that America would "1,000%" go bankrupt without AI and robotics. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects federal net interest costs will reach $1.0 trillion in 2026 and climb to $2.1 trillion by 2036. Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates, also warned the U.S. is heading toward a "debt death spiral," where the government must borrow to pay interest, but he foresees currency depreciation rather than a formal default.

Following the acquisition, IHI Power Services Corp. has been renamed Kyuden Energy Partners Corp. Analysis indicates that the current lead time for large gas turbines can exceed four years, and the queue for new power plants to connect to the grid is roughly the same length. This makes it difficult for developers to meet the rapidly growing electricity demand from sectors like data centers. Consequently, capital is shifting towards acquiring entities with operational capabilities rather than directly investing in generation facilities, thereby circumventing equipment shortages and grid interconnection bottlenecks. Kyuden International Corp.'s move aims to consolidate operational capabilities, preparing for its future expansion of power plant ownership in the United States.

A 2026 Pew Research Center analysis found over 3,000 operating U.S. data centers and more than 1,500 in development. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory projects data centers could consume 11.8% of U.S. electricity by 2030, while Goldman Sachs projects demand could rise from 31 GW in 2025 to 66 GW in 2027.

In response to this surging demand, the White House's 2026 Ratepayer Protection Pledge called on hyperscalers to bring new generation, pay grid costs, and protect existing customers. In June 2026, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) initiated separate proceedings for six regional transmission organizations (RTOs) and independent system operators (ISOs) to address whether existing tariffs are just and reasonable for large loads. States like Texas and New York are also implementing or pausing permits to develop new rules requiring large-load customers to shoulder infrastru

Gates believes smart robots will competitively perform physical tasks by the end of the decade, and customer support/sales jobs will be among the first white-collar roles affected. In contrast, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang believes AI will kill tasks instead of jobs. The tech sector saw nearly 250,000 layoffs last year, with 270,000 projected for this year, including Amazon's 16,000 and Oracle's 30,000 (nearly 20% of its workforce).

Qatar is working with Oman, Pakistan and other partners to de-escalate U.S.-Iran tensions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, as President Trump has not ruled out further U.S. strikes on Iran, keeping tensions around the critical oil shipping route elevated. Diplomatic efforts continue despite renewed escalation risks from both Washington and Tehran.

Ukrainian officials stated that the attack occurred overnight, with six of the victims being railway workers from Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways), and a garage was hit. Among the injured were two children. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday morning that nearly 350 rescuers worked overnight in Kyiv and the surrounding areas. Russia claimed its "massive high-precision weapon strikes" targeted Ukraine's military and energy facilities.

Claudeforce combines Claude's reasoning capabilities with Salesforce's customer data. AI and Data ARR approached $3.9 billion, growing over 210%. Slackbot became Salesforce's fastest-adopted AI product, reaching 1 million active users within five months of its launch. Free cash flow for the quarter reached $1.1 billion, an 81% increase year-over-year. The company raised its full-year FY2027 revenue guidance, though $200 million of this is contingent on an uncompleted acquisition.

Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Company reported a 16.5% drop in global sales to 219,495 vehicles in July 2026, including models sold under the Nissan and Infiniti brands.
