What is SRM?

SRM is the native token of the decentralized exchange (DEX) Serum. The Serum project was launched in August 2020 by the Serum Foundation in collaboration with partners such as FTX, Alameda Research, and the Solana Foundation, with the goal of building a high-speed, low-cost decentralized trading ecosystem on the Solana blockchain.Its core feature is a fully on-chain limit order book and matching engine, designed to provide trading efficiency comparable to that of traditional centralized exchanges.

The Serum project has deep historical ties to the now-bankrupt FTX exchange and its affiliate, Alameda Research. FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was a member of Serum’s advisory board, and this close connection brought Serum significant attention within the cryptocurrency industry.

However, the FTX bankruptcy in November 2022 dealt a severe blow to the Serum project. Despite the severe blow from the FTX incident, Serum—as a decentralized exchange—continues to have its token, SRM, traded on the market as of this writing.
