Founder of FLR

FLR is the native token of the Flare Network. Hugo Philion is the co-founder and CEO of the Flare Network. Together with his team, he created Flare, a Layer 1 blockchain designed to address blockchain interoperability issues and bring smart contract functionality to a broader range of digital assets.

Introduction to the Flare Network and the FLR Token

Flare is an innovative Layer 1 blockchain whose core objective is to achieve secure, universal interoperability between different blockchains and expand the scope of blockchain applications.Through its unique technology stack, it is dedicated to providing smart contract capabilities to assets that do not natively support smart contracts—such as Bitcoin (BTC), XRP, and Dogecoin (DOGE)—thereby integrating these assets into the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem.

  • Core Technology: Flare’s core innovations include two decentralized protocols: State Connector and the FAsset system. The State Connector enables the secure on-chain verification of data from external blockchains and Web APIs, while the FAsset system allows for the creation of synthetic versions of assets that do not natively support smart contracts—for example, converting XRP to FXRP—enabling them to participate in DeFi activities on the Flare network.
  • Token Use Cases: As the utility token of the Flare Network, FLR serves multiple functions:
    • Paying network transaction fees.
    • Serving as collateral for synthetic assets (such as FXRP) to ensure their value remains pegged.
    • Participating in protocol governance, where FLR holders can vote to propose and decide on the network’s future direction.
    • Delegating tokens to data providers via the Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO) to help the network provide accurate, decentralized price information and earn rewards.

  • Mainnet Launch and Token Distribution: The Flare mainnet officially launched on July 14, 2022. The public token distribution event (TDE) began on January 9, 2023.An initial 15% of FLR tokens was allocated to wallets holding XRP at the time of the December 2020 snapshot; the remaining 85% will be distributed monthly over 36 months to all Wrapped Flare (WFLR) holders.

Latest Developments and Vision for the Flare Network

The Flare Network is actively advancing the development of “XRPFi,” a decentralized finance ecosystem based on XRP, with the aim of expanding XRP’s use beyond primarily a payment asset to include DeFi scenarios such as staking, liquidity provision, and on-chain lending. The FAssets system allows users to convert XRP to FXRP at a 1:1 ratio, enabling them to participate in various DeFi services within the Flare ecosystem. As of July 2026, the circulating supply of FXRP has exceeded 150 million; Flare’s long-term goal is to attract 5 billion XRP into its ecosystem.

In addition, Flare plans to introduce “Confidential Compute” technology based on Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) to address the issue that the complete transparency of blockchain in DeFi may hinder institutional investor participation. This technology will allow institutions to conceal certain commercially sensitive data when conducting large-scale transactions and loans, while maintaining the verifiability of on-chain transactions, with the aim of attracting more institutional capital into the DeFi space.
