Origins and Early Features of the SafeMoon (SFM) Project

SafeMoon (SFM) debuted in 2021 as a community-driven decentralized finance (DeFi) token. Its core mechanisms are designed to attract and reward holders in three ways: first, “Reflection,” whereby a portion of transaction fees is distributed to existing holders with every transaction;second, “LP Acquisition,” which automatically channels a portion of transaction fees into liquidity pools; and third, “Burn,” which achieves deflation by reducing the total token supply. These features attracted significant attention in the early stages.

In December 2021, SafeMoon launched its V2 version, consolidating the original tokens at a ratio of 1:1,000 and adjusting the transaction fee structure to optimize its ecosystem.

Major Security Incidents and Legal Controversies

The development of the SafeMoon project has not been without challenges. In March 2023, the project suffered a major security breach, resulting in the loss of approximately $9 million in assets.

An even more severe blow came from regulators. In November 2023, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) filed lawsuits against SafeMoon and its founder, Kyle Nagy; former CEO, Braden John Karony; and former CTO, Thomas Smith. They were charged with securities fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering, and accused of embezzling over $200 million in crypto assets. As a result, SafeMoon filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection under U.S. bankruptcy law in December 2023 and subsequently ceased operations.

Legal proceedings are ongoing. As of this writing, Thomas Smith pleaded guilty in February 2025 to conspiracy to commit securities and wire fraud. Braden John Karony was found guilty by a federal jury in May 2025 of conspiracy to commit securities fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering.Founder Kyle Nagy remains at large.

Project Restructuring and Chain Migration

Following SafeMoon’s bankruptcy, the VGX Foundation announced in April 2025 that it had acquired the project and led the full migration of SafeMoon to the Solana blockchain. This migration, accompanied by the shutdown of all V2 contracts, marked the project’s attempt to start anew on a new infrastructure. Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) continues to actively seek victims of the SafeMoon fraud and urges them to file reports.

Current Market Performance and Risk Warning

As of July 28, 2026, the market performance of the SFM token reflects its complex history and current challenges. Its price ranges from approximately $0.0000013 to $0.00000138, with a market capitalization of approximately $787,800 to $849,300.The 24-hour trading volume is extremely low, fluctuating only between $481.16 and $632.61, with a circulating supply of approximately 610 billion to 614 billion SFM.

SFM’s all-time high (for V2) was reached on January 5, 2022, at $0.003383 (or $0.0034), while the current price is approximately 99.96% below that all-time high; the all-time low was $0.00000102.

Given the conviction of a former executive, the company’s bankruptcy, and damage to the project’s reputation, the market’s outlook on SafeMoon is generally pessimistic. Although the VGX Foundation is working to rebuild community trust, the project’s highly speculative nature, past legal issues, and security incidents have severely undermined investor confidence.SFM has extremely low trading volume, and its token economics (such as transaction fees) do not encourage high-frequency trading; therefore, it is not suitable for short-term trading. Any investment in SFM should be considered extremely high risk.

Where to Trade SFM Tokens

Currently, SFM tokens can be traded on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) that support this asset. According to public information, Raydium is one of the platforms currently supporting SFM trading. Since SFM has migrated to the Solana blockchain, users need to connect to DEXs such as Raydium using a Web3 wallet that supports Solana chain assets to trade. Please note that trading in crypto assets involves inherent risks, and given the complex history of the SFM project, investors should fully understand these risks and make decisions with caution.
