Introduction to Aeternity (AE) and Its Core Technology
“AE Coin” typically refers to Aeternity (AE), an open-source public blockchain platform designed to build scalable, secure, and decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts. It is important to note that this is a completely different project from the stablecoin “AE Coin,” which was recently licensed by the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates.
The core code of the Aeternity platform is written in Erlang, and its key technical innovations include:

- State Channels: These allow for the off-chain processing of a large volume of transactions and smart contract executions, significantly improving transaction speed and scalability while safeguarding user privacy.
- Decentralized Oracles: Built into the protocol layer, they securely and reliably bring real-world data onto the blockchain, providing external information to smart contracts.
- Hybrid Consensus Mechanism: Combines Proof-of-Work (PoW) for block production and ledger recording with Proof-of-Stake (PoS) for token holders’ participation in governance voting.
The project was co-founded in 2016 or 2017 by German-born computer scientist Yanislav Malahov (known as one of the “godfathers of Ethereum”). In its early stages, it garnered significant market attention due to its innovative technology and the team’s background, and was once hailed as “Europe’s Ethereum.”
Development History and Current Challenges
Since its launch, Aeternity has continued to advance its technical development. For example, in May 2025, its blog published updates on the FATE virtual machine, state channels, AENS (Aeternity Naming Service), and the Sophia smart contract language.During the same period, the Aeternity Foundation also announced that it had fulfilled its mission and relaunched its decentralized exchange (DEX).
However, despite these technical innovations, AE’s market performance has been in a prolonged downtrend since reaching its all-time high of $5.69 in 2018. The project faces challenges such as declining market attention and insufficient liquidity. Early ICO participants were also disappointed by delays in token distribution and the Ethereum wallet theft incident.
AE Coin Market Performance and Current Liquidity Status

As of August 15, 2026, the price of AE Coin fluctuated between approximately $0.0049 and $0.0060. Its market capitalization was approximately $1.89 million to $2.21 million, ranking it between 2,057th and 2,140th in the cryptocurrency market. The circulating supply of AE Coin is approximately 385 million to 440 million tokens, with a maximum supply of approximately 536 million to 540 million tokens.
It is worth noting that AE Coin’s 24-hour trading volume currently ranges from only about $332 to $532. Such low trading volume indicates that the token’s market liquidity is extremely limited, and investors may face significant slippage and difficulty in executing trades. The all-time low price was $0.00246856 (July 11, 2026). Investors can view AE’s real-time price and trends on market data platforms such as Svmuu.
Acquiring and Trading AE Tokens
Given the AE token’s extremely low current 24-hour trading volume, market liquidity has nearly dried up. This means the token no longer has an active trading market; investors should be wary of potential liquidity risks and carefully evaluate its investment value.Public records show that AE tokens were previously listed on exchanges such as Gate.io, Huobi, OKEx, BitMart, and Kraken; however, given their current extremely low trading volume, trading activity on these platforms may be very sparse or have ceased entirely. Although platforms like Coinbase include information on AE tokens, they explicitly state that trading is not available on their platforms.
Additionally, AE Coin operates on its proprietary mainnet, Aeternity, and its address format typically begins with “ak_,” which differs from addresses on other public blockchains such as Ethereum. If you still wish to trade, be sure to confirm that the exchange supports deposits and withdrawals on the Aeternity mainnet; sending funds to an incompatible address may result in the permanent loss of your assets.

Risk Warning
Although the Aeternity (AE) project demonstrates technical innovation, its token currently faces risks of extremely low liquidity, high price volatility, and a continuing decline in market attention. For any cryptocurrency investment, especially tokens with poor liquidity, investors should fully understand the project’s risks, conduct independent research, and make decisions based on their own risk tolerance.
