Introduction to Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR) and its Issuance Mechanism
Hedera Hashgraph is a unique enterprise-grade public distributed ledger platform designed to offer faster transaction speeds, lower costs, and higher scalability than traditional blockchains. Its native token, HBAR, plays a central role in the network, not only serving as "fuel" to pay for network services but also used to secure the network through a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mechanism and support ecosystem development and governance.

HBAR's issuance mechanism differs from many cryptocurrencies. Its maximum total supply is fixed at 50 billion tokens, and all these tokens were pre-minted when the Hedera network launched in August 2018 and deposited into the Hedera treasury. This means that HBAR's supply will not increase through mining or inflationary rewards, but rather will be gradually released into the ecosystem from the treasury by the Hedera Governing Council according to a preset schedule. This supply cannot be modified without the unanimous consent of the Governing Council.
HBAR Current Circulating Supply and Market Data
As of August 22, 2026, HBAR's circulating supply has reached approximately 43.83 billion to 44 billion tokens, which is about 88% of its 50 billion maximum total supply. This data indicates that most HBAR tokens have already entered market circulation. According to market platforms like Svmuu, the current price of HBAR fluctuates between approximately $0.07 and $0.082, with a market capitalization of about $2.97 billion to $3.67 billion, and a Fully Diluted Valuation (FDV) between $3.39 billion and $3.95 billion. HBAR's all-time high price reached $0.5059 to $0.57 on September 15, 2021.
It is worth noting that Hedera's economic whitepaper, published in June 2020, estimated that approximately 17.03 billion HBAR would be in circulation by 2025, accounting for about 34% of the total supply. The actual circulating supply has far exceeded that initial expectation, reflecting the rapid growth of the Hedera ecosystem and market demand.

HBAR's Core Uses and Technical Advantages
The HBAR token has multiple utilities within the Hedera network:
- Network Fuel: Users need to use HBAR to pay for services such as conducting transactions, creating tokens, and using decentralized applications (dApps) on the Hedera network. The average transaction fee is extremely low, typically around $0.0001.
- Network Security: HBAR holders can participate in the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism by staking their tokens, helping to secure the network. Stakers have the opportunity to earn rewards.
- Ecosystem Development: HBAR is also used to support incentive programs, grants, and staking rewards within the Hedera ecosystem, encouraging developer and user participation.
- Governance: HBAR holders may play a more significant role in future network governance, participating in decision-making processes.

Hedera employs the unique Hashgraph distributed ledger technology, rather than a traditional blockchain structure. This technology is designed to provide superior performance, such as processing over 10,000 transactions per second, with transaction finality typically within 5 seconds, thus providing a solid foundation for enterprise-grade applications. Several well-known companies, including Boeing, Google, and IBM, are part of the Hedera Governing Council, which demonstrates industry recognition of Hedera's technology.
