Pi Coin (PI) Project Overview and Mainnet Progress
Pi Coin (PI) is the native cryptocurrency of the Pi Network project, founded by a team of Stanford PhDs, aiming to democratize cryptocurrency mining through mobile devices. Pi Network officially launched its Open Mainnet on February 20, 2025, removing network firewalls, allowing external connections, and paving the way for PI coin trading on selected exchanges. However, users wishing to trade their mined PI coins must first complete KYC (Know Your Customer) verification and successfully migrate their tokens to the mainnet wallet.

PI Coin's Trading Status and Challenges
As of August 24, 2026, the trading price of PI coin is approximately $0.088 to $0.09, and its market capitalization has rebounded to over $1 billion. Despite the launch of the Open Mainnet, the trading market for Pi coin still faces several challenges. Firstly, top global cryptocurrency exchanges such as Binance and Coinbase have not yet listed PI coin, which limits its liquidity and market recognition. Secondly, prior to the Open Mainnet launch, "Pi IOU" tokens appeared on the market, which were created by some exchanges independently of Pi Network, solely for speculative trading, and were not real PI coins. The Pi Core team plans to conduct the final mainnet protocol upgrade, Protocol 27, on September 15, 2026, aiming to further enhance the flexibility and security of smart contracts.
Platforms Supporting PI Coin Trading

Although it has not yet gained favor with top exchanges, since the launch of the Open Mainnet, some centralized exchanges have successively listed PI coin trading pairs. These platforms provide trading channels for users who have completed KYC and migrated their tokens. As of the time of writing, platforms supporting PI coin trading include:
- OKX: As one of the earlier platforms to support PI coin trading, it launched simultaneously with the Pi Open Mainnet on February 20, 2025.
- MEXC: Offers spot trading services for PI coin.
- Bitget: Also supports PI coin trading.
- Gate.io: Provides PI coin trading pairs.
- BitMart: Allows users to trade PI coin.
- Kraken: Obtained spot listing for PI coin in March 2026.
In addition, platforms such as CoinW, LBank, WEEX, CEX.IO, BTCC, Pionex, and ChangeNow also support PI coin trading. For beginners, centralized exchanges are generally recommended due to their better liquidity and user-friendly interface. Please note that users should verify the platform's compliance, security, and PI coin trading pair information when choosing a trading platform.

Risk Warning for Trading PI Coin
Trading PI coin involves multiple risks, and investors should fully understand and treat them cautiously:
- Liquidity Risk: Although listed on some exchanges, the overall liquidity of PI coin may not be as good as mainstream cryptocurrencies, and large transactions may face slippage.
- Price Volatility Risk: The cryptocurrency market is highly volatile, and the price of PI coin may fluctuate significantly due to market sentiment, project progress, and macroeconomic factors.
- KYC and Privacy Risk: Participating in trading requires completing KYC verification, which involves submitting personal identity information. Users need to weigh privacy protection against trading convenience.
- Project Development Uncertainty: Pi Network has a long development cycle, and the actual application and future development of its ecosystem still have uncertainties.
- Regulatory Risk: Regulatory policies for cryptocurrencies vary and are constantly changing across countries, which may affect the trading and holding of PI coin.

Pi Network's referral model has also raised questions about its multi-level marketing nature. Before participating in PI coin trading, investors must conduct thorough market research and risk assessment and make decisions based on their own risk tolerance.
