WhaleEx Status: Operations Ceased
Whale Exchange (WhaleEx) was once a prominent decentralized exchange platform in the cryptocurrency market, playing a significant role particularly within the EOS ecosystem. However, according to official announcements, WhaleEx ceased all operations in May 2021 due to policy requirements, retaining only the distribution of unexpired hashrate earnings and withdrawal functions. Its APP and servers were officially shut down in December 2023, marking the complete cessation of the platform's operations.

It is worth noting that "crypto whales" typically refer to individuals or institutions holding large amounts of assets in the cryptocurrency market, whose trading activities significantly impact the market. As a leading DEX in the EOS ecosystem by trading volume, WhaleEx may have attracted a large number of EOS holders and early digital currency investors. These large holders are often referred to as "whales" in the cryptocurrency market, but "crypto whales" is not an official alias or name for WhaleEx.
Historical Positioning and Glory Days
WhaleEx was registered in Singapore in October 2018, with a core vision to bring greater transparency and trust to the crypto asset industry through blockchain technology. As a decentralized trading protocol on the EOS chain, WhaleEx quickly rose in the EOS ecosystem due to its innovative technology and user incentive measures. In December 2018, WhaleEx achieved a 24-hour trading volume of 14 million EOS, becoming the largest EOS DApp by trading volume globally at one point.

During this period, WhaleEx actively expanded ecological cooperation. For example, in December 2018, it formed a strategic partnership with the Bitpie wallet team to jointly launch cross-chain assets such as EBTC, EETH, and EUSD, aiming to introduce Bitcoin and Ethereum users into the EOS ecosystem, further enriching its platform functions and user base.
Product Vision and Ecosystem Layout
WhaleEx once proposed the grand vision of "Everything Exchange," aiming to build a comprehensive crypto financial service platform. The platform independently developed cross-chain technology, supporting cross-chain trading of various mainstream crypto assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. Additionally, WhaleEx had planned to offer a range of diversified financial services, including Whale Pool, Whale Hashrate Bitcoin mining, Whale Lending, Whale Wealth Management, Whale Wallet, Whale Auto-Invest, and planned to expand into derivatives services such as futures, options, and perpetual contracts, to meet the needs of different users.

Cessation of Operations and Asset Handling
The termination of WhaleEx's operations was a phased process. Initially, in May 2021, the platform ceased most of its business due to policy requirements. Subsequently, to handle users who might still have small amounts of unwithdrawn assets, WhaleEx stated that it would retain data. As of November 2023, WhaleEx, in conjunction with the multi-signature parties of the smart contract nodes, performed a multi-signature operation to withdraw approximately 70,000 USDT remaining in the smart contract, which was used to process user withdrawal requests. By December 2023, WhaleEx's APP and servers were completely shut down. According to its historical statements, all data was originally planned to be retained for 24 months (starting from December 2023), but as of the time of writing (August 2026), this data retention period has passed.
Market Status and Risk Warning

Given that WhaleEx completely ceased operations in December 2023, there is currently no active trading market on the platform. Users should be aware that any claims of transactions or services related to WhaleEx are not credible, and they should be vigilant against potential fraud risks. For users who previously held assets on the WhaleEx platform, they should refer to official historical announcements to confirm whether asset withdrawals have been completed.
