Bytom Overview
Bytom (BTM token symbol BTM) is an interactive protocol for diverse byte assets, with a core vision to connect the digital and physical worlds, facilitating the registration, exchange, and circulation of various assets between these two domains. The project aims to provide an open-source value exchange protocol based on blockchain, enabling users to create and circulate tokenized forms of real-world assets on the Bytom blockchain, such as warrants, securities, dividends, and bonds, and to perform complex contract-based interactions.
The Bytom project officially launched in 2017 and successfully completed its Initial Coin Offering (ICO). On April 24, 2018, the Bytom mainnet officially went live, marking the formal operation of its blockchain network. The project's founders include Chang Jia and Duan Xinxing.

Bytom 2.0: Key Upgrades and Transformation
To adapt to the development of blockchain technology and market demands, Bytom announced its Bytom 2.0 upgrade plan in 2021. This major upgrade aims to unify platform operations onto a single chain, gradually phasing out the original Vapor sidechain, and bringing several core improvements:
- Consensus Mechanism Transformation: Shifting from the early AI ASIC-friendly PoW algorithm (Tensority) to PoS (Proof of Stake) mechanism. This change significantly improves transaction finality and shortens block confirmation time to 6 seconds per block, greatly enhancing network efficiency.
- Economic Model Reform: Bytom 2.0 reformed the token economic model, aiming to reduce total supply and inflation rate. The total supply of BTM will decrease from 2.1 billion to approximately 1.566 billion, while the annual issuance cap for BTM will also be lowered from 90 million to 30 million, promoting a more deflationary model.
- Strengthened BTM Token Role: In Bytom 2.0, the BTM token plays a more crucial role, not only for basic service fees but also in governance, node elections, and staking, further reducing circulating supply through the staking mechanism.
Technical Features

Bytom's technical architecture is designed to support the issuance and management of complex assets, with its main features including:
- Three-Layer Architecture: The platform adopts a three-layer architecture comprising an application layer, contract layer, and data layer, to achieve modularity and scalability.
- Contract Layer: Uses genesis contracts and control contracts for asset issuance and management, supports an extended UTXO model (BUTXO), and optimizes the virtual machine. Its contract system has its own language and syntax, supports Turing-complete contract languages, and can be compatible with external contract languages (such as Ethereum).
- Encryption and Security: Asset management and operations involve private keys, public keys, and an address system, implemented through ESCDA encryption and SHA256 hashing. Notably, Bytom also supports China's national standard SM2 elliptic curve and SM3 cryptographic hash algorithm.

Bytom's ecosystem encompasses a range of products and services designed to support on-chain asset issuance and circulation, primarily including:

BTM Token Economic Model
The BTM token is the core fuel of the Bytom ecosystem. In the early stages of the project, token distribution was conducted through an ICO, with an ICO price of 0.25 RMB. According to the Bytom 2.0 update, the total supply of BTM has been adjusted to approximately 1.566 billion tokens, with an annual issuance cap of 30 million tokens. Under Bytom 2.0's PoS mechanism, BTM is primarily used for network staking to maintain security, participate in community governance voting, and pay network transaction fees.
