ICON (ICX) Core Mechanisms and Technical Features
ICON (ICX) is a decentralized platform dedicated to connecting different blockchains and building an interoperability ecosystem, once hailed as "Korea's Ethereum." Its core value proposition lies in enabling seamless communication and the transfer of data and assets between different blockchains without the need for hard forks. However, the project is currently undergoing a major transformation, migrating to the SODAX protocol, with plans to officially shut down the original ICON network on December 31, 2026.

Interoperability Vision and BTP Protocol
ICON's core technology is its Blockchain Transmission Protocol (BTP), designed to achieve an "internet of blockchains." BTP connects different blockchains using only four smart contracts, facilitating the seamless flow of data and assets. It supports cross-chain token transfers and cross-chain smart contract calls, laying the foundation for decentralized applications and metaverse scenarios.
DPoS Consensus Mechanism and Enterprise-Grade Applications
The ICON network employs a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus algorithm. ICX token holders can stake their tokens and delegate them to Public Representatives (P-Reps), who are responsible for validating transactions, generating blocks, and participating in network governance. ICON was initially designed for enterprise-grade applications, and its technology partner PARAMETA (formerly ICONLOOP) has helped numerous enterprises use ICON technology on private chains. Its smart contracts support the Java language, making it easy for enterprise developers to integrate.

Transition to SODAX Protocol and Future Development
The ICON network is actively migrating to the SODAX protocol. This transition means the original ICON network is scheduled to officially shut down on December 31, 2026, at which point ICX holders can migrate their ICX tokens to SODA tokens. SODAX is positioned as a next-generation DeFi protocol and has already integrated the popular cross-chain DeFi platform Balanced into its ecosystem, signaling a future development focus on decentralized finance.
SODAX Ecosystem and DeFi Focus
The ICON Foundation currently primarily supports the development and promotion of SODAX. As a DeFi protocol, SODAX is expected to continue ICON's advantages in interoperability, supporting a wider range of cross-chain DeFi applications through the BTP protocol. The integration of Balanced will support the value of ICX through an ICX burn mechanism and liquidity pool incentives, further driving the development of the SODAX ecosystem.

Enterprise Collaboration Foundation and Challenges
ICON's existing collaboration foundation with the Korean government and institutions, as well as its Java Virtual Machine (JVM) smart contract execution environment, could bring potential enterprise-grade applications and partners to SODAX. However, the blockchain market is highly competitive, and ICON faces competition from other advantageous projects. Its application potential has not yet fully materialized, and its visibility still needs to be improved.
ICX Tokenomics and Market Performance
The ICX token plays a crucial role in the ICON network, used for paying transaction fees, participating in staking, and network governance. By staking ICX to participate in governance, users can earn rewards, which helps maintain the security and stability of the network.

Market Data Overview
As of early October 2026, the price of ICX has fluctuated between $0.01011 and $0.01749, with a 24-hour trading volume of approximately $978,203 to $6.04M. Its market capitalization ranges from about $10.95M to $16.52M, ranking approximately 784th to 1183rd. ICX's all-time high price reached $12.62 to $13.16 (January 2018), and its all-time low was $0.007697 to $0.00912 (September 2026). Due to news of delisting from exchanges, ICX recently experienced concentrated selling pressure and significant volatility.
Trading Channels
ICX tokens can be traded on platforms that support the coin, such as Upbit, Bithumb, KuCoin, HTX, and Bitget.
