HTX Perpetual Contracts: Derivatives Trading Without Expiry
HTX (formerly Huobi) perpetual contracts are a popular derivative instrument in the cryptocurrency market, allowing traders to speculate on the price fluctuations of cryptocurrencies without actually holding the underlying assets. Unlike traditional futures contracts, perpetual contracts do not have a fixed expiry or delivery date, meaning traders can hold positions indefinitely. This characteristic gives perpetual contracts extreme flexibility but also comes with corresponding risks.

Core Mechanism: Funding Rate Ensures Price Pegging
To keep perpetual contract prices closely pegged to spot market prices, HTX introduced the funding rate mechanism. Funding rates are typically settled every 8 hours, with settlement times usually at 4:00, 12:00, and 20:00 in the GMT+8 timezone.
- When the funding rate is positive, long positions (bulls) pay fees to short positions (bears).
- When the funding rate is negative, short positions pay fees to long positions.

The HTX platform merely acts as an intermediary for fund transfers between traders in this process and does not charge this fee. The existence of the funding rate effectively prevents long-term deviations between contract prices and spot prices.
Leverage Trading and Strict Risk Management
Perpetual contracts typically support high leverage trading, with some major trading pairs offering leverage up to 200x. Leverage is a double-edged sword; while it amplifies potential gains, it also multiplies potential losses. Even small price fluctuations can lead to significant changes in account funds under high leverage, or even trigger liquidation.

Liquidation occurs when the market price moves in an unfavorable direction, causing the account's margin level to fall below the maintenance margin requirement. HTX will automatically close part or all of the position to prevent further losses. For novice traders, it is strongly recommended to start with low leverage (e.g., 5-10x), strictly set stop-loss orders to control risk, and avoid full-position operations.
Diversified Trading Types and Order Placement Methods
HTX perpetual contracts support two basic operations: "Buy Long" (bullish) and "Sell Short" (bearish), as well as corresponding "Sell to Close Long" and "Buy to Close Short" to close positions.

- Margin Mode: HTX offers USDT-margined contracts and coin-margined contracts. USDT-margined contracts use the stablecoin USDT as margin and settlement unit, making profit and loss calculation straightforward and suitable for beginners. Coin-margined contracts use native cryptocurrencies (such as Bitcoin) as margin and settlement units, where profits directly increase the amount of held coins, but traders need to be aware of the dual impact of coin price fluctuations on margin value.
- Position Mode: Traders can choose between Cross Margin mode (all positions share margin, shared risk) or Isolated Margin mode (each position calculates margin independently, isolated risk).
- Order Types: Primarily include Limit Orders (specifying price and quantity) and Trigger Orders (pre-setting trigger conditions and price). Limit orders also offer execution mechanisms such as "Post Only," "Fill or Kill," and "Immediate Or Cancel."
Account Operations and Latest Market Dynamics
New users must first register an account on the HTX platform and complete identity verification (KYC), then enable contract trading functionality. Before trading, funds need to be transferred from the spot account to the corresponding contract account (e.g., USDT-margined contract account or coin-margined perpetual contract account).

The HTX platform continuously launches new perpetual contract trading pairs and regularly introduces trading competitions and other activities. For example, on October 8, 2026, HTX launched several perpetual contract trading pairs such as AKAM/USDT and VKTX/USDT. Given the high volatility of the cryptocurrency market, perpetual contract trading carries extremely high risks. It is not recommended for anyone to participate blindly; always trade cautiously after fully understanding the risks and being well-prepared.
