Jupiter (JUP) Token Overview and Issuance Background
Jupiter (JUP) is the native governance token of Jupiter, a decentralized exchange (DEX) aggregator built on the Solana blockchain. The project aims to provide users with optimized trading paths and prices by aggregating liquidity from multiple DEXs. The launch of the JUP token is a crucial step towards decentralized governance for the Jupiter ecosystem, empowering community members to vote on the future direction of the protocol.
JUP Token Issuance and Airdrop Details
The JUP token was officially launched in January 2024, with its first large-scale community airdrop taking place on January 31, 2024. This massive airdrop distributed 1 billion JUP tokens to approximately 955,000 eligible wallets, making it one of the largest cryptocurrency airdrops in history at the time. JUP token distribution occurs through regular community airdrop events called "Jupuary," with 50% of the total supply allocated to the community.
Initial Trading Price and Market Performance
Regarding the initial trading price of the JUP token, multiple data points exist in the market. Shortly after the airdrop, the starting trading price of JUP tokens generally ranged between $0.40 and $0.41. However, there were also reports of its opening trading price briefly reaching $2 before quickly falling back to approximately $0.64. Before its official launch, the pre-listing price of JUP on the Aevo exchange was around $0.65. These prices reflect the early market discovery process of the token across different platforms and time points.
Supply and Market Cap Overview
The maximum supply of JUP tokens was initially set at 10 billion, later reduced to 7 billion after community vote approval. At the time of its launch, the initial circulating supply of JUP was approximately 1.35 billion. Its initial market capitalization was estimated to be around $700 million or $878 million at its debut, with a fully diluted valuation (FDV) reaching $6.7 billion, and the fully diluted market cap exceeding $6 billion shortly after launch. As of October 14, 2026, the current circulating supply of JUP is approximately 3.32 billion, and the total supply is approximately 6.86 billion.

JUP's Ecosystem Role and Governance
As the governance token for the Jupiter DEX aggregator, JUP aims to achieve decentralized governance through the Jupiter DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization). Token holders can participate in voting, propose and vote on important protocol decisions, parameter adjustments, and future development directions, thereby collectively shaping the future of the Jupiter ecosystem.
