XCH is the native cryptocurrency of the Chia Network blockchain.Chia Network is a Layer 1 blockchain platform that employs a unique “Proof of Space and Time” (PoST) consensus mechanism. Founded in 2017 by Bram Cohen, the inventor of the BitTorrent protocol, and others, the project aims to provide a more energy-efficient and decentralized alternative to Proof-of-Work blockchains such as Bitcoin.
Core Technology: Proof of Space and Time
Chia’s core innovation lies in its consensus mechanism. Unlike Bitcoin, which relies on a competition for computing power, Chia utilizes idle storage space on network participants’ hard drives. This process is called “farming.”Users must first “seed” (plots) their hard drives; these data files are used to verify transactions and maintain security on the blockchain network. The entire process consumes far less electricity than traditional mining, which is why it is often promoted as a more environmentally friendly blockchain solution.
Chia has also developed its own smart contract programming language, Chialisp, which supports features such as issuing assets and conducting decentralized transactions. The mainnet officially launched in March 2021.
Recent Ecosystem Developments
The Chia Network ecosystem continues to evolve, with recent public developments including:
- Game Application Testing: On September 23, 2026, the Chia Network launched beta versions of its first playable games, marking a step forward toward application-layer experiences.
- Security Incident Clarification: On October 6, 2026, the Chia team issued an announcement confirming the security of its Layer-1 blockchain core network, stating that the XCH token and underlying protocol were unaffected. It also noted that three independent third-party ecosystem projects encountered security issues due to flaws in their smart contract logic.
- Post-Quantum Security Exploration: In August 2026, a consortium in which Chia participates launched a post-quantum cryptography pilot aimed at evaluating protection technologies against future quantum computing threats.
Token Economics and Market Status

The total supply cap for XCH is approximately 34 million tokens. Of these, approximately 21 million were pre-mined as a strategic reserve prior to the project’s launch to fund network development, ecosystem incentives, and corporate operations.
According to data from October 17–18, 2026, the price of XCH ranged from $1.58 to $1.62, with a circulating market capitalization of approximately $22 million to $30 million and a 24-hour trading volume of approximately $560,000 to $670,000.This price level represents a significant correction from its all-time high of approximately $1,900, reached in May 2021.
Project Team and Compliance Stance
Chia Network is headquartered in California, USA. Since January 2023, Gene Hoffman has served as the company’s President and CEO, while co-founder Bram Cohen has transitioned to the roles of Chief Technology Officer and Chairman of the Board.
The project has received support from several prominent venture capital firms, including Andreessen Horowitz. Chia Network has consistently emphasized that regulatory compliance is one of its core strengths and has publicly committed to operating within the existing legal framework.
Trading and Storage
XCH can be traded on several major cryptocurrency exchanges. Users need dedicated wallet software (such as the official Chia wallet) to store and manage XCH tokens, as the network is based on the independent Chia blockchain and does not support general-purpose Ethereum ecosystem wallets like MetaMask.
