What is Nano (NANO/XNO)?
Nano (originally RaiBlocks) is a peer-to-peer digital currency designed for fast, free, and scalable payments. It was first conceived by Colin LeMahieu in 2014 and rebranded as Nano in 2018. Its core goal is to address the bottlenecks of early cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin in terms of transaction speed, fees, and energy consumption.
Technical Architecture: Block-lattice and Open Representative Voting
Nano's technical innovation lies in its "Block-lattice" structure. Unlike traditional blockchains, each Nano account has its own independent blockchain (account-chain), which only records the sending and receiving transactions for that account. This design allows transactions to be processed asynchronously, significantly enhancing the network's parallel processing capability.
The consensus mechanism employs Open Representative Voting (ORV). Token holders can delegate their voting weight to trusted representative nodes, which then vote to confirm transactions. Since it does not require Proof-of-Work mining like Bitcoin, the Nano network achieves:
- Zero Fees: No network fees are incurred for sending transactions.
- Instant Confirmation: Average transaction confirmation time is under 1 second.
- Ultra-low Energy Consumption: The energy consumption per transaction is extremely low.
Tokenomics and Key Data

Nano has a fixed total supply of 133,248,297 tokens. All tokens were fully distributed between 2015 and 2017 through fair distribution methods such as "airdrops," resulting in a 100% circulating supply, and the protocol will not mint new tokens.
An important historical event is that in June 2022, according to Nano's official plan, the token ticker was formally changed from NANO to XNO, and a 1:1 swap was completed on supporting exchanges (such as OKX). Therefore, the correct ticker for this asset is currently XNO.
Project Team and Development
The Nano project is supported by the Nano Foundation, and founder Colin LeMahieu remains active in the community. Project development is ongoing, focusing on improving network efficiency, security, and developer tools to promote its application in daily payments and micro-transaction scenarios.
Market Status and Trading
XNO can be traded on some cryptocurrency exchanges that support the asset. Given its relatively small market capitalization, liquidity may not compare to mainstream assets. Before trading, please verify the latest listing status and trading pair information on each platform.
