BLAST Project Overview

BLAST was an Ethereum-based Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution that utilized Optimistic Rollups technology and was fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Its core innovation was to provide "native yield" for Ethereum (ETH) and stablecoins deposited into its network.

Core Mechanisms and Features

  • Native Yield: The BLAST network generated yield by staking bridged ETH into liquid staking protocols like Lido DAO, and by investing bridged stablecoins (such as USDC, USDT, DAI) into Real World Asset (RWA) protocols like MakerDAO's T-Bills, returning the interest to users.
  • Gas Fee Sharing: BLAST also programmatically returned net gas fee revenue to decentralized application (DApp) developers, who could choose to retain this revenue or use it to subsidize users' gas fees.

Team Background and Controversial Launch

The BLAST project was launched in February 2024 by the founding team of the NFT marketplace Blur (including anonymous developer Pacman). Its governance token, BLAST, was issued on June 26, 2024. The project sparked controversy in its early stages because it opened for deposits in November 2023, but the L2 mainnet did not officially launch until February 29, 2024, during which time user withdrawals were locked. Some commentators believed that before the mainnet launch, it functioned more like a contract forwarding funds to Lido and MakerDAO rather than a fully functional L2.

Funding Situation

The BLAST project raised $20 million from prominent venture capital firms and individual investors, including Paradigm, Standard Crypto, and eGirl Capital.

BLAST Token (BLAST)

BLAST was the governance token of Blast L2, and holders could participate in the governance of the decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). According to historical data, its maximum supply was 100 billion BLAST tokens.

Project Discontinuation and Market Status

Important Note: The BLAST project announced on October 2, 2026, that it would gradually cease operations due to operating costs exceeding revenue and a lack of a sustainable development path. As of October 25, 2026, the team has set October 26, 2026, as the final deadline for users to withdraw their assets back to the Ethereum mainnet.

Given that the project has announced its discontinuation and entered the withdrawal deadline phase, the BLAST token no longer has an active trading market. Historical price, market capitalization, and trading volume data are no longer relevant in the current context, and significant discrepancies exist between public data sources, making it impossible to accurately reflect its true market conditions before operations ceased.
