Sommelier (SOMM) Protocol Overview and Core Mechanisms
Sommelier is a non-custodial, cross-chain protocol focused on automating decentralized finance (DeFi) investment strategies. The platform allows community members to create and participate in "Cellars," which are smart contract-based investment vehicles developed by Strategy Providers (SPs) and executed by Sommelier validators. These Cellars aim to optimize user portfolios, facilitate long/short trading, lending, and yield farming.
Sommelier is built on the Cosmos SDK and utilizes the Tendermint Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, ensuring the network's decentralization and security. Its core advantage lies in its non-custodial nature, allowing users to withdraw their assets from Cellars at any time. Strategy Providers cannot control these funds, thereby enhancing user asset security.

SOMM Tokenomics Model
SOMM is the native token of the Sommelier protocol, playing multiple critical roles within the ecosystem. It is primarily used for network staking to maintain protocol security and operation. Additionally, SOMM serves as part of transaction fees and grants holders the right to participate in protocol governance, voting on the future direction of the protocol.
The total supply of SOMM tokens is fixed at 500 million. Notably, its staking rewards are not generated through inflation. Instead, cellar fees are collected in underlying cellar tokens and converted into SOMM tokens via an auction mechanism, which are then distributed to stakers. This mechanism aims to create continuous buying pressure for SOMM tokens, thereby supporting their value.
Development History and Funding Rounds
The Sommelier protocol was co-founded in 2020 by Zaki Manian (former lead developer of the Cosmos protocol), Justin Kilpatrick, Kevin Kennis, Jehan Tremback, and Kristi Põldsam. Since its inception, the project has attracted attention from capital markets.
Sommelier completed a $4 million seed round in March 2021, led by Standard Crypto. Subsequently, in October 2021, the project secured a $23 million Series A funding round led by Polychain Capital, with participation from notable institutions such as Alameda Ventures and Multicoin Capital. These two rounds collectively raised $27 million for the project, primarily used to upgrade network software, launch Sommelier Cellars, and expand to Ethereum, EVM-compatible blockchains, and rapidly growing Layer 2 liquidity pools.

Market Performance and Historical Data

As of November 2, 2026, the current price of SOMM coin is approximately between $0.0002306 and $0.000251. Its 24-hour trading volume is extremely low, ranging from about $59.08 to $83, reflecting very limited market activity. The current market capitalization is approximately between $86,438.67 and $90,829.85. The circulating supply of SOMM is around 370 million to 374.8 million, with a total supply of 500 million.
SOMM coin reached its All-Time High (ATH) of $7.09 on February 8, 2022, while its All-Time Low (ATL) occurred on October 20, 2026, at approximately $0.0001583. The current price has fallen by over 99.95% from its historical high, indicating extremely high volatility and risk.
Investment Considerations and Risk Warning
The Sommelier protocol, with its innovative automated DeFi investment strategies and non-custodial features, theoretically holds certain market potential. Its vision to make DeFi investments more accessible and efficient may attract users interested in complex DeFi strategies.
However, based on market performance, SOMM coin is currently considered a high-risk asset. Its extremely low 24-hour trading volume indicates severe lack of market liquidity and ineffective trading. The significant price drop from its historical high also suggests immense uncertainty regarding its investment value. Long-term investment value will depend on the protocol's ability to continuously innovate technologically, expand ecosystem partnerships, and find and maintain its unique positioning and applications in the highly competitive DeFi space. Investors should fully consider their risk tolerance and conduct in-depth market analysis and research before making any decisions.
