Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Answers Journalists' Questions on U.S. Military Action Against Venezuela
Q: According to reports, the United States has launched a military strike against Venezuela. Donald Trump posted on “Real Social” that the U.S. has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader Maduro, and that Maduro and his wife have been taken into custody and removed from the country. What is China’s comment on this?A: China is deeply shocked by and strongly condemns the U.S. for brazenly using force against a sovereign state and taking action against a head of state. Such hegemonic acts by the U.S. seriously violate international law, infringe upon Venezuela’s sovereignty, and threaten peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean. China firmly opposes them.We urge the U.S. to abide by international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and to cease infringing upon the sovereignty and security of other countries.
