On Sunday, EU member states—with the exception of Hungary—called on all parties in Venezuela to exercise restraint, stating that respecting the will of the Venezuelan people is the only way to restore democracy in the country. In a statement, the 26 EU member states and the EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said: “ The EU calls on all parties to remain calm and exercise restraint, avoid escalating the situation, and ensure a peaceful resolution to the crisis.” The statement added: “Respecting the will of the Venezuelan people remains the only way to restore democracy in the country and resolve the current crisis.”
