On January 4 local time, Venezuelan Interior Minister and leader of the United Socialist Party, Cabello, delivered a video address. In his remarks, he emphasized that Venezuela has only one president: Maduro, who is currently under the coercive control of the United States. Cavieso also stated in the video address that there had previously been an attempt to divide Venezuela’s armed forces and revolutionary movement, but that the plot had failed, noting that “the first phase has failed.” Cavieso said, “They have forcibly taken control of President Maduro and are now beginning to implement the second phase of their plan.” Cavello called on all parties not to show weakness toward “imperialism” and certainly not to create casualties on the path forward. He emphasized that the unity of Venezuela’s revolutionary forces “has been fully guaranteed.” (CCTV)
