On January 5, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian presided over a regular press conference. A reporter asked about the situation in southern Yemen. Lin Jian stated that China has taken note of the statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the response from the United Arab Emirates, and commends both Saudi Arabia and the UAE for emphasizing respect for each other’s sovereignty and security. The international community widely recognizes the legitimate government of Yemen. China has consistently supported the maintenance of Yemen’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. We welcome the dialogue meeting among various factions in southern Yemen held in Riyadh, and call on all parties to remain calm and exercise restraint, to resolve differences and disputes through political dialogue, and to create conditions for the early restoration of peace and stability in Yemen.
