Reuters: Chevron is in talks with the U.S. government regarding the expansion of its licenses in Venezuela
Reuters reported that oil producer Chevron is in talks with the U.S. government to extend a key operating license in Venezuela so it can increase crude oil exports to its own refineries and sell crude to other buyers. The talks come as Washington and Caracas make progress in negotiations to supply up to 50 million barrels of Venezuelan oil to the United States, while U.S. President Donald Trump has urged American oil companies to invest in the South American nation’s energy sector.Chevron is the only U.S. oil giant operating in Venezuela, and its operations there are conducted under a U.S. government authorization that exempts the company from sanctions targeting the country. Sources also said Washington is encouraging other U.S. companies to participate in Venezuela’s oil export business.
