Japan's antitrust agency has launched an investigation into Microsoft
Kyodo News reported on the 25th that Japan’s antitrust authority, the Japan Fair Trade Commission, conducted an on-site investigation of Microsoft’s Japanese subsidiary that day on suspicion of violating antitrust laws. According to the report, the Japan Fair Trade Commission believes that Microsoft may be engaging in unfair competition in the cloud services market by leveraging its dominant position in the office software and operating system sectors.Specifically, Japanese companies that use Microsoft software on competing cloud platforms such as Amazon are required to pay higher fees than when using the same software on ’s own cloud platform, Azure. Regulators believe that this practice of differential pricing may induce customers to switch to Microsoft’s own platform, thereby adversely affecting market competition. (Xinhua News Agency)
