Gate Secures PSD2 Payment Institution License in Malta, Advancing the Development of Stablecoin Infrastructure in the EU
Svmuu News: Gate announced that its Maltese subsidiary, Gate Technology Ltd., has officially obtained a Payment Institution (PI) license from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) under the EU’s Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2). This license makes Gate one of the first crypto-native companies in Europe to obtain such regulatory approval, laying the groundwork for offering compliant stablecoin and payment services across the EU. Mr. Giovanni Cunti, CEO of Gate Technology Ltd., stated that the license will support the company in building a secure bridge between traditional finance and Web3, providing clear regulatory safeguards for institutional and retail users. Previously, Gate obtained a full MiCA license for its exchange and custody services. With the PSD2 license, Gate is now expanding its payment services footprint across the EU under the EU’s passporting mechanism. This move demonstrates Gate’s commitment to compliance and regulatory transparency, further driving innovation and development in Europe’s digital asset financial infrastructure sector. Gate continues to advance its global compliance efforts and resource allocation, with multiple subsidiaries having obtained relevant regulatory registrations, licenses, or completed authorization processes in jurisdictions such as Malta, the Bahamas, Japan, Australia, and Dubai. Meanwhile, Gate US holds 33 state-level licenses in the United States, with its compliant operations covering 45 jurisdictions.
