Pentagon Introduces Google AI Agents to Automate Non-Classified Daily Work
Svmuu News According to senior officials from the U.S. Department of Defense, Google is deploying artificial intelligence agents for approximately 3 million personnel within the U.S. Department of Defense to automate daily tasks. Emil Michael, the U.S. Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, stated that Google's Gemini AI agents can independently execute tasks after users set them, initially operating on non-classified networks. He added that the Department of Defense is in discussions with Google to deploy these agents onto classified cloud platforms. Jim Kelly, Google's Vice President, mentioned in a blog post on Tuesday that this new feature will allow both civilian and military personnel of the Department of Defense to build AI agents using natural language. Google has faced internal criticism in the past for its collaboration with the Department of Defense. In 2018, thousands of employees protested the company's involvement in Project Maven, a Pentagon initiative that utilized AI to analyze video data from overseas drone warfare. The opposition ultimately led to Google not renewing the contract for that project. (Jin10)
