Nic Carter Responds to Controversy Over BIP-360 Author's Identity Background: Focus Should Be on Proposal Quality and BTC Quantum Resistance Goals
Svmuu News: Nic Carter, Partner at Castle Island Ventures, posted on the X platform, stating that the controversy within the crypto community regarding the identity and background of the BIP-360 author is not important. What the Bitcoin community should truly focus on is the technical quality of the proposal itself and its public review process. It is not uncommon in Bitcoin's history for developers to be anonymous or use pseudonyms. For example, the identity of "Shaolinfry," the author of BIP-148, which proposed the key solution for activating Segregated Witness, remains unknown to this day, yet this has not diminished the importance of the proposal. Known members of BIP-360 include Ethan, who has a strong technical background, Isabel, who has long been involved in Bitcoin initiative work, and the pseudonymous developer Hunter Beast. This proposal aims to serve as a preliminary measure to achieve Bitcoin's quantum resistance. By eliminating potential quantum vulnerabilities in Taproot addresses, it paves the way for a future series of BIPs designed to defend against quantum computing risks. Some opposition may come from groups focused on issues like "filtering or spam transactions." However, as the potential future failure risk of Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) gradually gains attention, the community's priority is shifting towards how to enhance Bitcoin's quantum resistance.
