According to Iranian media Fars News, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Bagheri stated that since the war broke out in late February, there have been neither negotiations nor any exchanges between Tehran and Washington. In an interview on Wednesday, Bagheri said, "After attacking Iran during negotiations, no one can trust U.S. foreign policy anymore." He added that Washington had negotiated with Tehran twice, but both times launched attacks against Iran. He pointed out that the attacks by Israel and the U.S. on Iran during the indirect talks were "a betrayal of diplomacy."
Bagheri said, "Yesterday we made it clear that there are no negotiations or consultations between Iran and the United States. I must say, we have had very painful experiences with U.S. diplomacy." He refuted U.S. President Trump's claim that Washington and Tehran had begun ceasefire negotiations. He stated, "Over the past 24 days, there has been no contact between Iran and the United States, and the Iranian armed forces continue to defend the country's territorial integrity." He added, "I cannot deny the fact that many countries in the region and beyond have proposed to Iran to act as mediators in negotiations between Iran and the United States. These messages have been coming in continuously for several days. We have received requests for such negotiations and have responded to them. Our position is clear: we will continue to defend ourselves." He also stated that statements from the U.S. and Israel about holding negotiations with Iran are not credible, as it was they who initiated the terrorist war against Tehran.
Sources on the Iranian side said that what they seek is to end the war, not just a ceasefire. (Jin10)
