Moonwell Hit by Low-Cost Governance Attack, Malicious Proposal Poses Threat to User Funds
Svmuu News Decentralized lending protocol Moonwell is under a low-cost governance attack. An unidentified attacker spent approximately $1,800 to acquire around 40 million MFAM tokens in an attempt to push through a malicious governance proposal that would transfer control of the protocol's core contracts to a contract they control. If executed, this proposal could put approximately $1.08 million in user funds at risk. The entire operation, from token purchase to proposal submission and reaching the required quorum, took only about 11 minutes. The proposal targets seven lending markets, the comptroller, and the oracle. If enacted, the attacker's contract could directly withdraw funds from the protocol. Voting is set to continue until March 27th. Although the proposal initially gained the necessary votes quickly, subsequent participation shows most voters are opposing the measure. The final outcome will depend on the ultimate vote tally and any undeclared voting power. (The Block)
