Svmuu News: Google is reportedly preparing to back a large data center project in Texas, operated by Nexus Data Centers and leased to Anthropic. According to the Financial Times, citing sources familiar with the matter, the initial phase of the project could exceed $5 billion, with Google expected to provide construction loans while a banking consortium is also vying to arrange financing by mid-year.

Anthropic has reportedly recently signed a lease for the 2,800-acre campus, as part of its broader infrastructure collaboration with Google. Construction on the project has begun, with early debt financing provided by Eagle Point, a publicly traded closed-end investment company. The site is expected to deliver approximately 500 megawatts of capacity by the end of 2026, with potential for future expansion to 7.7 gigawatts.

Additionally, U.S. District Judge Rita Lin in San Francisco on Thursday issued a preliminary injunction, temporarily blocking the Pentagon's directive to label Anthropic a national security risk and halt government use of its AI tools. The ruling stems from a lawsuit filed by Anthropic, with the judge calling the government's actions "arbitrary" and warning against characterizing an American company as a threat without clear legal basis. Reportedly, tensions with the government arose after Anthropic refused to allow its models to be used for lethal autonomous weapons or mass surveillance.
