Svmuu News Google is preparing to support a large-scale data center project in Texas, operated by Nexus Data Centers and leased to Anthropic. According to the Financial Times citing informed sources, the initial phase of the project may exceed $50 billion. Google is expected to provide construction loans, while a banking consortium is also vying to arrange financing before mid-year.
It is reported that Anthropic recently signed a lease for this 2,800-acre campus, which is part of its broader infrastructure collaboration with Google. The project has already commenced construction, with early-stage debt financing provided by the publicly traded closed-end investment company Eagle Point. The site is expected to provide approximately 500 megawatts of capacity by the end of 2026, with the potential to expand to 7.7 gigawatts in the future.
Furthermore, U.S. San Francisco Federal Judge Rita Lin issued a preliminary injunction on Thursday, temporarily blocking the Pentagon from designating Anthropic as a national security risk and halting the government's directive to stop using its AI tools. The ruling stems from a lawsuit filed by Anthropic. The judge called the government's actions "arbitrary" and warned against labeling a U.S. company as a threat without clear legal basis. It is reported that Anthropic previously refused to allow its models to be used for lethal autonomous weapons or mass surveillance, leading to tensions with the government.
