Svmuu News: On Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a stern warning to the international shipping community, stating that any new shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz established without coordination with Tehran are unacceptable and dangerous, and threatening to take direct action against vessels that disregard its instructions.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz is only possible via routes designated by Iran. The IRGC Navy added that all vessels seeking to pass through the strait must coordinate with the Iranian military via Channel 16 of the International Maritime Distress and Safety Code (DSC)—a requirement that effectively places the Iranian military’s authorization at the heart of all commercial shipping through this strategic chokepoint.
