Svmuu News: According to an article published on the WeChat official account People's Bank of China (PBOC), Xuan Changneng, Deputy Governor of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), stated that China’s anti-money laundering efforts have entered a new phase of high-quality development, with significant results achieved in combating money laundering and related criminal activities. In 2025, the number of cases nationwide in which defendants were convicted of money laundering under Article 191 of the Criminal Law exceeded 2,000. Efforts have been intensified to combat professional money laundering, virtual currency money laundering, and cross-border money laundering activities, while improving the quality and efficiency of investigations, prosecutions, and sentencing for money laundering crimes.
Criminal syndicates exploit differences and loopholes in legal systems and regulatory rules across different countries and regions to engage in arbitrage, using straw accounts, wash trading, and virtual currencies to conceal the flow of funds, posing new challenges to financial regulation and law enforcement efforts in various countries. This also creates an urgent need for enhanced cross-border coordination and cooperation among nations in areas such as intelligence sharing, case investigations, and asset recovery.
