Paul Chan: Hong Kong Will Be Able to Provide Approximately 180,000 PFLOPS of Computing Power by 2032; AI Development Has Entered the System-Level Planning Phase
Svmuu News: Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan published a column in which he noted that artificial intelligence is being applied at various levels, including embodied intelligence—which extends from chat-based interactions into the physical world—and is moving from the digital realm into the physical world, permeating various aspects of daily life. Hong Kong’s AI+ and Industrial Development Strategy Committee has explored key areas such as scientific research and innovation, data flow and security, computing power infrastructure, application scenarios, talent development, and capital investment, marking a shift in Hong Kong’s AI strategy from piecemeal progress to a systematic approach. In terms of computing power, by 2032, Hong Kong will be able to provide approximately 180,000 PFLOPS, equivalent to 36 times the city’s current total computing power. Last year, 56% of the funds invested by Hong Kong Investment Management Limited in various projects were allocated to hard tech, including AI, and the company also promoted the development of the RISC-V open-source architecture ecosystem.
