Svmuu News: Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of Strategy, published a 110-point article opposing the proposed BIP-110 soft fork on Bitcoin.BIP-110 plans to tighten the Bitcoin consensus rules within about a year, restricting the technology used to embed arbitrary data, with the aim of targeting non-financial data such as Ordinals and inscriptions.
Michael Saylor stated that BIP-110 would invalidate currently valid and paid-for transactions through the consensus mechanism, and argued that Bitcoin cannot discern the intent behind the data. He believes that subjecting a particular use case to restrictions at the consensus layer would set a governance precedent; while the restrictions themselves would expire in about a year, the precedent would remain.
He also opposes the proposal’s activation design, noting that it lowers the miner signal threshold from 95%—used in earlier soft forks—to 55% and removes the option to allow proposals to expire naturally. The proposal’s monitoring dashboard shows that the current signal support rate is below 1%.
The BIP-110 mandatory signaling window will open in August, with a target activation date of approximately September 1.Michael Saylor’s position aligns with that of Blockstream CEO Adam Back, Casa’s Jameson Lopp, and Bitcoin supporter Samson Mow, while opponents include developer Luke Dashjr and the Bitcoin Knots camp.
