Amnesty for Companies Expanded to Include the Cryptocurrency Sector; BitMEX’s Parent Company’s $100 Million Fine Waived
Svmuu News Donald Trump set a precedent in modern U.S. history by granting pardons to corporations during his second term; to date, he has pardoned nine companies, including HDR Global Trading, the parent company of the cryptocurrency trading platform BitMEX.The company faced a $100 million fine for violating anti-money laundering regulations. On March 27, 2025, Donald Trump signed a pardon granting amnesty to four former executives, including co-founder Arthur Hayes, as well as the company itself—coinciding with the very week the fine was due.Reports indicate that the idea of granting a corporate pardon was first proposed in early 2025, when BitMEX’s parent company was quietly seeking clemency; some White House officials cited the precedent set more than 300 years ago when King Charles II of England granted a pardon to a company.
