Svmuu News Donald Trump The government has so far made cumulative investments of approximately $26.7 billion through 30 equity or quasi-equity transactions, involving Intel, MP Materials,U.S. Steel, among others. However, these holdings are scattered across multiple government agencies, and there is currently no unified, public mechanism for disclosing the investment portfolio, nor is there a unified oversight and regular reporting mechanism similar to the TARP program during the 2008 financial crisis. To date Donald Trump, the government’s equity holdings are spread across at least four departments, including the Department of Commerce (17 transactions), the Department of Defense (7 transactions), the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC, 6 transactions), and the Department of Energy (2 transactions). The largest of these investments is the U.S. Department of Commerce’s 9.9% stake in Intel.Notably, Hassett, Director of the White House National Economic Council, described these equity investments as “a down payment on the U.S. establishing a sovereign wealth fund,” suggesting that the U.S. government may further expand its direct holdings of corporate equity.
