Trump also dismissed fears that tariffs could harm the economy, claiming they have "made this country a fortune." Last Friday, the Trump administration imposed tariffs of 10% to 12.5% on goods from over 80 countries, citing their failure to prohibit forced labor. These duties took effect just as a prior worldwide 10% temporary tariff expired.
