MicroStrategy Reports a Net Loss of $8.2 Billion in the Second Quarter Due to a Drop in the Price of Bitcoin
MicroStrategy, the world’s largest holder of Bitcoin, reported a net loss of $8.2 billion for the second quarter, primarily due to an $8.32 billion write-down on the value of its digital asset holdings caused by the decline in the price of Bitcoin. As of July 26, the company held 843,775 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $54.8 billion.MicroStrategy also stated that it has built a $3.75 billion cash reserve, sufficient to cover preferred stock dividends and interest expenses for more than two years, and sold approximately $218.4 million worth of Bitcoin for the first time through its “Bitcoin” to replenish its cash reserves.
