A New Mexico judge on Thursday ordered Meta to pay $567 million into an abatement fund, following a jury ruling that the company violated the state’s unfair practices act in a child harms case. This fund is in addition to the $375 million in civil penalties Meta was previously ordered to pay. The ruling also mandates Meta to improve age assurance models using AI, develop an under-13 prediction model within two years, and enhance reporting mechanisms for underage usage.
