Dubai-based maritime tokenization company Shipfinex has partnered with blockchain platform ADI Chain, aiming to bring the $2 trillion commercial shipping asset class onto the blockchain. This collaboration plans to tokenize commercial vessels, opening up the $680 billion ship finance market, currently dominated by banks, shipowners, and specialized lenders, to a broader range of institutional investors. Shipfinex has received in-principle approval from Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) and has identified approximately 35 vessels with a total value of $500 million as tokenization candidates. However, no tokens have been issued yet, and full regulatory approval and transaction structures are still being finalized. The partnership aims to provide a regulated digital pathway for institutional participants to invest through financial instruments linked to the shipping economy and legal structures, though token holders will not possess legal ownership of the vessels.
