AI startup Manus announced it will soon resume operating as an independent company. This follows a demand from China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in April for Meta to unwind its $2 billion acquisition of Manus, which Meta had announced last December. The deal, involving a developer of general-purpose AI agents, had attracted scrutiny from both Beijing and Washington. Manus indicated that some users will need to back up data generated on or after December 29, 2025, as part of its separation from Meta to comply with regulatory requirements.
