China's C919 passenger jet completed its first scheduled international commercial flight on Wednesday, operated by Air China from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This marks a significant step for China in developing an alternative to Boeing and Airbus models, and the first time the C919 has operated outside of China. The Beijing-Ulaanbaatar route is scheduled to operate daily. Although the C919 has received numerous orders, mainly from Chinese airlines and leasing companies, it still relies on foreign components and has not yet been certified by major aviation regulators in the United States or Europe, which limits its ability to win customers in many overseas markets. Last year, COMAC delivered only 15 C919 aircraft, far short of its target of 75.
