S&P 500 companies' Q2 blended net profit margin hits record 16.9%, highest since 2009, FactSet data shows
This is up from 14.8% in Q1 and 12.9% a year ago, well above the five-year average of 12.4%. Google (Alphabet) and Amazon are the biggest contributors to this record. Even excluding these two, the S&P 500 margin still reached a record 15%, also the highest since 2009.
