South Korea's Supreme Court ruled that Samsung Securities must pay 186 million won (approximately $1.31 million) in compensation to the National Pension Service over the "ghost stock" scandal.
South Korea's Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that Samsung Securities must pay approximately 186 million Korean Won (about 1.31 million USD) in damages to the National Pension Service (NPS), upholding the lower court's decision. This ruling stems from Samsung Securities' "ghost stock" scandal in 2018 and emphasizes that failures in a brokerage firm's internal controls can lead not only to regulatory penalties and trading losses but also to civil liability to investors. The NPS had initially sought 29.9 billion Korean Won in compensation.
