According to real estate data analytics firm Curinos, the average variable interest rate for a home equity line of credit (HELOC) in the U.S. was 7.16% as of August 17, 2026, marking a new low for 2026. Meanwhile, the national average interest rate for a fixed-rate home equity loan was 7.35%, a slight increase from its 2026 low of 7.31% in late June. Currently, there is a 19-basis-point difference between these two loan rates. These rates are based on applicants with a credit score of at least 780 and a combined loan-to-value (CLTV) ratio below 70%.
