A top Lebanese prosecutor announced on Tuesday that Adel Issa, a former major general in Bashar al-Assad’s Syrian Army, would be extradited to Syria to face trial for alleged crimes committed during his military service. This marks the first time a Syrian regime figure accused of atrocities has been approved for return from Lebanon. The new Syrian government, formed after the fall of the al-Assad regime in December 2024, is actively seeking to extradite former regime members for war crimes, indicating a shift in Lebanon's stance towards these individuals who previously found refuge there.
