According to real estate data analytics firm Curinos, as of August 24, the average variable interest rate for U.S. home equity lines of credit (HELOCs) was 7.16%, a new low for 2026. During the same period, the national average interest rate for fixed-rate home equity loans was 7.35%, slightly above the 2026 low of 7.31% recorded in late June. Both rates are based on applicants with a credit score of at least 780 and a combined loan-to-value (CLTV) ratio below 70%.
