Argus Downgrades DraftKings (DKNG) to Hold From Buy, Removes Price Target on Rising Costs, Tax Uncertainty
Argus noted that DraftKings' stock price has fallen by 43.22% over the past year, primarily due to high customer acquisition costs, rising state gaming taxes, and increased competition in prediction markets. The company's investment in a federally regulated prediction platform will add tens of millions of dollars in costs, and its 2026 performance guidance assumes stable state tax rates. However, tax rate increases in states like New Jersey and Illinois could significantly compress profits. Although DraftKings' fourth-quarter revenue was nearly $2 billion, a 43% year-over-year increase, and its adjusted earnings per share of 36 cents were double market expectations, with GAAP net profit projected for the first time in 2025, Argus's concerns mainly focus on future prospects.
