India is likely to record its lowest monsoon rainfall since 2009, with September rainfall expected to remain below average, according to weather bureau officials.
Officials also expect the monsoon to begin retreating earlier than usual next month. A weaker rainy season could weigh on crop production and potentially increase food-price pressures in the world’s most populous country.
