Norway's energy major Equinor hopes to make a "pretty big" oil discovery offshore Namibia, a global exploration hotspot it has just entered, a senior company official said on Tuesday. Equinor believes its Petroleum Exploration License 90 (PEL 90) in the Orange Basin could yield a significant find, similar to those made by TotalEnergies and Galp in recent years. The company entered the Namibian exploration rush a week ago by acquiring a 17.4% participating interest in PEL 90 from a Chevron subsidiary.
